Joel Alicea

Joel Alicea rejoined Cooper & Kirk in 2017 after clerking for Justice Samuel A. Alito, Jr., of the United States Supreme Court during the October 2016 term. He previously clerked for Judge Diarmuid F. O’Scannlain of the United States Court of the Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
 
Mr. Alicea graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School, where he served as President of the Harvard Federalist Society and as a Notes Editor for the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy. In 2012, Forbes magazine named Mr. Alicea one of its 30 Under 30 for Law & Policy. He earned his undergraduate degree summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Princeton University. At Princeton, Mr. Alicea received the Stephen T. Whelan ’68 Prize for the best senior thesis on public or constitutional law.
 
Mr. Alicea has published widely on issues of constitutional theory, including in the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Constitutional Law, National Affairs, and Policy Review. He is the recipient of the Temple Bar Scholarship and the John Marshall Fellowship.
